Kowloon The Walled City ~ 九龙城寨

For no particular reason, I decided to examine Kowloon The Walled City that no longer exists and was probably a hellhole to live in when it did exist. With 35,000 people including quite a few children that weren't getting education or health checks, I can imagine generations of people living in the same inventive squalor under the thumb of the Triads.

Inventive squalor because if you don't have anything you have to make do with what you have and sometimes, like stringing electrical wires across the planet in order to get your single light bulb to work so you can see what you're eating, if you have food, is inventive.

But the squalor and the probable lack of education means the inventiveness would have to continue into the next generations. The children would probably suffer the most. Started in 1898 with the British coming to Hong Kong, Kowloon was destroyed in 1994. Where did the 35,000 people go? Probably into Hong Kong or Guangdong.

Here is a picture, a video, and an audio report about Kowloon: The Walled City
